FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The link above will download a Word document for your vet to complete prior to our assessment. We ask you to forward this to your vet as they will need your consent before sending us any details - this saves some back and forth!

Where are you?

How long will treatment take?

This is completely individual to each dog and depends on many factors including their condition or injury, their age, current weight and level of fitness and your goals of physiotherapy. You will be given management advice and an exercise program as part of your physiotherapy treatment. Patients who follow this advice and plan are likely to improve quicker than those who don't. Your treatment plan and expected duration will be discussed with you after your initial consultation.

What do I need for my first session?

Prior to your first appointment a vet consent and Ts & Cs form will be sent to you, these must be completed before your first appointment. The clinic is on a working farm - your dog must be kept on a lead when entering or exiting.

Please bring your own dog treats.

I ask that your pet is as clean and dry as possible and has had the opportunity to use the toilet before your appointment starts.Sessions are led by a positive reinforcement approach which means lots of treats or games! I will bring a selection of tasty tit-bits with me but if your dog has specific dietary restrictions or is particularly fussy then it would be helpful if you could provide some suitable treats. Please make sure your dog has all prescribed medications and pain relief as advised by your vet at the appropriate time on the day of your appointment.

Can I claim for physiotherapy on my pet insurance?

Happily most insurance companies recognise the value of physiotherapy treatment and will cover the cost of your sessions. As a member of the Association of Charter Physiotherapist in Animal Therapy (ACPAT) insurance companies acknowledge that South West Vet Physio is adequately qualified to provide care. Some insurers even provide additional funds specifically for physiotherapy treatment even if you have maxed out your allowance for veterinary input. It is your responsibility to check your policy allowance prior to commencing treatment. South West Vet Physio cannot claim directly for you treatment so you are required to pay for the session and then reclaim the cost from your insurance company. Invoices are provided at the end of every session.

How and when do I pay?

Payment will be taken on booking via payment link.

What is your cancellation policy?

You can cancel or reschedule your appointment up to 48 hours prior - please email swvetphysio@gmail.com.

Any cancellations or rescheduling within 48 hours of your appointment will be charged at 75% of the full cost of the appointment.

Why do I need my vet's consent for physiotherapy?

By law all referrals for physiotherapy treatment require written veterinary consent as per the Veterinary Exemptions Order, 2015 before treatment can start. Fitness Assessments are exempt from this order as no treatment takes place during a fitness assessment.
